Former Southern Illinois University football head coach Rey Dempsey will be the grand marshal for the 2023 Homecoming.
Coach Dempsey led the 1983 Salukis to a 13-1 record, a NCAA Division 1-AA National Championship, and won Division 1-AA Coach of the Year.
The 1983 Saluki football team has been invited to join coach Dempsey in being recognized during the parade and homecoming game against South Dakota State.
The parade starts at 10 a-m on October 21, going through the streets of Carbondale and ending on campus.
The tailgate will be at Saluki Row from 11 a-m until 2 p-m, and the game starts at 2 p-m at Saluki Stadium.
