Southern Illinois University Carbondale is planning variety of special events this month to recognize October as Campus Sustainability Month.

The university will celebrate it's longstanding commitment to being "green".

To kickoff the month of events, a Brown-bag luncheon discussion is scheduled for October 12 at 1p.m in Room 103 in Parkinson Laboratory.

A variety of activities will take place outside of SIU's Sustainability Hub in the Student Center from 11 a.m to 1 p.m on October 24. The same day, the Forestry program will host Elementary Schoolers from Murphysboro for a hands-on tree walk on campus.

On October 26 from 5-7 p.m, SIU fashion studies student Aliyah Lewis will present a "Scrunchies from Scraps" upcycling workshop at the Student Center Craft Shop.

The next day, a Sustainability Chat outside the Hub will be held from 10:30 a.m to 12:30 p.m.

The grand finale takes place on November 4 from 9 a.m to noon at the SIU Farms Service Center with The Great Southern Illinois Pumpkin Smash.
