High school students from the Southern Illinois region who meet admission criteria can take advantage of a new streamlined application process for SIU-Carbondale.

Students with a senior year GPA of 2.75 or higher will be automatically pre-admitted to SIU with a click of a button.

The Say Yes initiative is collaborating with high schools in 17 counties throughout the region. Once the applications are filled partially by qualifying students and required documents are received, they will be automatically admitted to SIU.

Director of admissions Sarah Jiter says the college application process can be stressful for many students, and this program will be helpful for future Salukis starting their career.

"As from the college point of view, saying it's OK, you can apply to college, you are college material and kind of taking that burden off of them."

All students maintain the right to make their final decision on the traditional College Decision Day of May 1.
