A dedication ceremony Friday at the SIU-Carbondale College of Engineering, Computing, Technology and Mathematics officially opened a new center to bolster information technology initiatives in the building.
The Technical Service Center -- or TSC -- is named after Roger J. Missavage, who was the Director of the Computer Assisted Instruction & Research Laboratory in the College of Engineering for 29 years.
John Brajkovich will manage the T-S-C. He was a student worker for Missavage and a former colleague.
Brajkovich says the word service defined the Herrin man's approach to life.
"That's inside of work and outside of work. He was just a guy who would help you with anything you needed. He would make loans to students if they were having problems. Anything he could do to help. A very charitable man. A very giving man. Service and knowledge, that's what he did. With my student workers, that's what I try and do. That's what we're going to do here is teach these students to serve."
Missavage's family established the $500,000 endowment to become a vital resource, offering technical and logistical support within the college.
Roger Missavage died in November 2021 at the age of 71.
