Carbondale Shuts Down The Strip for SIU Homecoming Concert

The City of Carbondale, Carbondale Main Street, and the SIU Alumni Association are coming together to host the "Off The Rails Concert" as part of Southern Illinois University’s 2024 Homecoming celebrations. This event will transform downtown Carbondale by shutting down The Strip and bringing the concert right to the heart of the city. Local legends Jungle Dogs will headline with their farewell show, and regional favorite Modern Day Saints will open the night with a high-energy performance.

The concert will take place at the intersection of Illinois Avenue and Cherry Street, making the vibrant downtown area the epicenter of Homecoming festivities. Illinois Avenue will be closed from College to Elm Street, and public consumption of alcohol will be allowed in non-glass containers throughout the downtown entertainment district.

Interim City Manager Stan Reno emphasized how this concert embodies Carbondale’s unique blend of tradition and new energy, making it a memorable experience for alumni, students, and the entire Southern Illinois community. The event will feature food trucks, vendors, and after-parties at nearby businesses.

The concert will be held from 7-10 PM on October 11, with street closures beginning at 11 a.m. This is an open invitation for all ages to join in and celebrate the music and spirit of SIU Homecoming.
