SIU Brings Maroon Spirit to Du Quoin State Fair

Southern Illinois University Carbondale is set to make a big splash at the Du Quoin State Fair, showcasing its maroon pride and community spirit. The university will be heavily involved in the fair's festivities, starting with the Twilight Parade. The parade will feature the Marching Salukis, Saluki Spirit Squads, members of the Dawg Pound, and SIU System President Dan Mahony, all proudly representing SIU as they march through the fairgrounds.

But the university's participation doesn't stop there. SIU Day at the fair is a major highlight, offering a variety of activities and events for attendees. Held at the Second Heat Building on Midway Drive, across from the walk-in plaza (Gates 5-6), SIU Day will run from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 31. The event will include engaging activities, entertainment, and opportunities to connect with the university community. The day will feature exciting races, including the USAC Silver Crown and UMP Modified races, as well as live country music performances by stars Chris Lane and Breland. Additionally, the SIU Water Ski Club will showcase their skills with ski shows at the fairgrounds lake, with performances starting at noon and continuing throughout the day until 5 p.m.

SIU students, faculty, and staff can enjoy free parking at the fair with a valid ID, making it easy for the university community to join in the fun. Everyone is encouraged to wear maroon to show their Saluki pride and fully embrace the festive atmosphere. The Twilight Parade takes place at 6 p.m. on Friday, August 23, while SIU Day will be held from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 31. Don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity to celebrate SIU and be part of the Du Quoin State Fair.
