Southern Illinois University Carbondale will pay tribute to victims of September 11, 2001, with the 9/11 Saluki Stair Climb at the Banterra Center. The 110-floor stair climb represents the 110 floors of the World Trade Center twin towers that were destroyed that day.
Participants also have the option to walk for 2 miles around the Banterra Center concourse, representing the evacuation from Ground Zero to a site across the Brooklyn Bridge.
The SIU Air Force and Army ROTC carry out the annual workout It honors the lives of first responders, members of the military, and civilians.
The Saluki Stair Climb is free and open to the public, but registration and a waiver are required. The event begins at 6 am on Wednesday, September 11. Participants should arrive at the Banterra Center at 5:45 am.
