SIU Carbondale's 2025 Outside the Box music festival features eight performers from the School of Music.
The series opens this Saturday evening with a concert by the SIU Wind Ensemble, School of Music faculty performers, and the Altgeld Chamber Players.
Sunday afternoon follows with a performance at the Old Baptist Foundation Recital Hall with a clarinet quartet.
Monday's performance at the Recital Hall will feature associate professor of piano Angela Kim, an award-winning performer and the director of keyboards at SIU Edwardsville. Kim will give a presentation and workshop starting the next day at 10 a.m.
Later on Tuesday, the SIU Improvisation Unit welcomes guest artists and composers Ryan Gaston and Sarah Belle Reid for a workshop and performance.
On Wednesday, Arkansas State University professor Timothy Crist will perform a solo of electro-acoustic music with a modular synthesizer and special lights.
The SIU Percussion Ensemble will lead a performance at Shyrock Auditorium led by Christopher Butler, assistant professor in the School of Music.
Friday evening will wrap up the festival with a performance composed by multi-wind performer Vinny Golia and clarinetist Eric Mandat at the Recital Hall.
