SIU Carbondale will hold a ceremony remembering 10 faculty, staff, and students who passed away during the 2024-2025 school year.

The inaugural ceremony will provide a time for reflection and connection with the friends and families of those the university has lost.

The ceremony will open with the SIU School of Music's Southern Brass quintet.

It will include brief remarks by Chancellor Austin Lane and Sheryl Tucker, the provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs.

Jessica Hardges, a senior in faculty design, will read a poem written by Allison Joseph, a professor of English.

The names of the five students and five faculty members will be read, followed by the presentation of a memorial item and a moment of silence.

The remembrance ceremony will be at 1 p.m. on April 16 in the Student Center Ballrooms.

Counselors from Counseling and Psychological Services will be available if needed.
