SIU Carbondale celebrates Earth Month this April with the theme "Our Power, Our Planet."
The university and its sustainability office are partnering with the City of Carbondale to sponsor climate action and community engagement focused on protecting the environment.
The "green" events this month will start with the free and public Feeding Our Community Event at the city pavilion on Wednesday from noon to 2 p.m.
On Friday, the STEAMFest Express Salukis symposium will showcase innovative science, technology, engineering, art, and math projects created by SIU students, faculty, and staff.
The Salukis Repurpose the Runway Show, part of the STEAMFest, will show off garments made from recycled materials like bubble wrap, cardboard, or shopping bags.
The symposium starts at 4 p.m. in the Renaissance Room at the student center, with the fashion design competition beginning at 6:30 p.m.
On April 14 at noon, an art display and presentation honoring Buckminster Fuller will take place at Bucky's Haven by campus lake, and later that evening at Guyon Auditorium at Morris Library.
The Green Fund Grant Award Ceremony will be held in the auditorium at 3 p.m. on April 22.
The annual Arbor Day tree planting will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on April 23 near South Oakland Avenue and Douglas Drive, along with numerous other community events.
