Social service agencies picking out toys from the the Poshard Foundation

The Poshard Foundation started their annual toy distribution to social service agencies Wednesday.

Around 2000 toys and gifts will be given out by 15 social service agencies to about 600 kids in the lower 12 counties in Southern Illinois.

Rocio (ROW-C-O) Williams with Damas Latinas of Southern Illinois says they’re picking up gifts for 48 children this year.

“Really a lot of them are not able to afford toys, especially with this economy, so I think our group wants to reach out to those basically Spanish speaking families in the region that could really benefit from a gift that, you know, the kids can get in Christmas, that otherwise it probably won't.”

The Poshard Foundationstarted this annual event more than twenty years ago to make sure abused and neglected children will get something for Christmas.
