Johnston City school bus involved in a collision Monday morning in Williamson County on Illinois Route 37 at Foxcroft Drive.

The new school week got off to a bit of a frightening start for approximately 30 K through 12 school children.

At around 7:25am Monday, Williamson County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a traffic crash involving a Johnston City School District bus on Illinois Route 37 at Foxcroft Drive.

The bus was stopped to make a left turn when it was struck from behind by a SUV driven by Michael Redmon of Pittsburg, Illinois. Road conditions were slick due to heavy rain.

Multiple Williamson County Sheriff’s Office units, Williamson County Fire Department, and United EMS responded to the scene. Johnston City School Superintendent Josh Pietrantoni and other school officials also responded.

Out of an abundance of caution, a number of children were transported to area hospitals by parents or ambulance for evaluation of minor injuries.

All parents and guardians of students involved in the accident were notified directly.

Redmon was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
