This is National Travel and Tourism Week.
The travel industry drives hundreds of millions of dollars to southern Illinois.
To celebrate the week, Discover Downstate Illinois is highlighting the attractions the region has to offer in its 21-county coverage area.
Communications Director Andy Waterman says some of the unique opportunities include the Du Quoin State Fair, Centralia Balloon Fest and Rainbow Ranch Petting Zoo in Nashville.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the annual industry celebration known as National Travel and Tourism Week.
