The Poshard Foundation's annual Christmas toy giveaway is helping bring the holidays to abused and neglected children. "

This year, co-founder Jo Poshard said around 500 children will get gifts, and the foundation has around 2,000 toys to give away, to ensure each child gets at least three presents

Poshard said the children the foundation serves are already struggling with trauma from abuse and neglect, and deserve to have Christmas just like everyone else. While the foundation doesn't interact with the children directly, she said knowing they're able to bring happiness to kids in need is enough.

"We hear the stories, we hear about the smiles, we hear about how it created a Christmas that they would not have had otherwise, and that's good enough for us," Poshard said. "We're just happy to know that we're bringing smiles to their faces."

Donations from individuals and area businesses allow the foundation to shop for toys for kids of all ages. Workers from social service agencies identify families in need and shop for them at the giveaway.
