Last year was a good one for people who used the state treasurer’s unclaimed property program known as I-Cash.
State Treasurer Dan Rutherford says his office returned $129 million in unclaimed property in 2012, up from $100 million in 2011.
Rutherford says an advertising campaign, use of social media and holding I-Cash clinics across the state are responsible for the increase.
“I go in and help promote them. We are Facebooking it we are Tweeting it. We also have a marketing program, advertising out there,” Rutherford said. He notes that the program doesn’t utilize general revenue funds.
Rutherford says his office still holds nearly $2 billion in unclaimed property and cash.
