A federal grand jury has indicted the former manager of Marion's City water department.
The US Attorney's office says a grand jury indicted 59-year old Linda Heyde with three counts of embezzlement and theft. The charges each carry a potential sentence of up to ten years if convicted.
Heyde is accused of defrauding the city of Marion over about a 16-year period. Investigators say Heyde was observed on camera placing money in her purse. The indictment indicates Marion police were tipped off when the water department's bank deposits did not contain cash. An audit of the Water Department's books shows Heyde stole about 500-thousand dollars from the city between 1996 and May of 2012.
The Marion City Council fired Heyde last May.
