One local woman is going great distances to save a Union County animal shelter.
Kendra Linder, manager of the Cache Creek Animal Rescue returned home Monday after spending the last month walking more than 300 miles to the Shorewood, Illinois Petco where the shelter does 95 percent of their adoptions.
Linder said she walked through all types of daunting weather during the chilly month of February in order to save the Union County shelter that is too often plagued by floods.
Linder had originally hoped that her March for a Miracle would bring in the $100,000 needed to build a new shelter outside of the flood zone... but actual funds raised came in just over $11,000.
Linder is not giving up hope though... less than two days after the march she and shelter director Donna Hawk are already reevaluating how to save the animal rescue.
Linder says one option is restructuring. For more information about the cause or to make a donation to Cache Creek Animal Rescue visit them on Facebook or at their website www.cachecreekanimalrescue.com.
