A southern Illinois woman is accused of running a garage sale she falsely claimed was being held on behalf of fundraising group formed after last year's shooting death of a 21-year-old woman.
Prosecutors in Franklin County have charged 50-year-old Donna Restivo of Benton with a count of deceptive practice. Authorities say Restivo placed a newspaper ad for a garage sale, saying proceeds would go to the Justice For Molly group. Investigators say Restivo didn't contact the group or turn over the unspecified amount of money she raised.
The Justice For Molly group was formed after the unsolved death of Molly Young, a Carbondale woman whose case is now being reviewed by a special prosecutor.
