Highway road work will take a break for the Holidays.
The Illinois Department of Transportation will suspend non-emergency roadwork to reduce traffic congestion over the Christmas and New Year's holidays.
Road and highway work will come to an end at 3 p.m. Tuesday and will last until midnight Wednesday. The same thing will happen starting at 3 p.m. News Year's eve through midnight on New Year's Day.
IDOT officials say lane closures could be in effect in some construction zones, depending on the project. Work zone speed limits will also remain in effect even if construction workers are not on site.
