Secretary of State spokesman Dave Druker says Illinois' motor vehicle facilities reopened Thursday after a computer outage affected operations at all 138 of the offices.
Druker says the outage began Wednesday morning and some facilities eventually came back online.
There was no word on what caused the outage. Technicians from IBM worked with technology staff at the agency to resolve the problem.
Staffers at the facilities tried to do as much as possible with pen and paper.
Some customers were sent home with courtesy cards allowing them to return another time without having to wait in line.
