Community members can get an inside look at law enforcement operations at the Carbondale Police Department during the Citizens Police Academy.

The Police Department is now accepting applications for the free program designed to strengthen relationships between the police department and the community.

Participants will learn about police department divisions, patrol procedures, traffic stops, investigations, and crime scene operations. The academy also offers an opportunity for citizens to ask questions, share concerns, and better understand the challenges faced by law enforcement.Classes will be held from six to nine p.m. on all four Wednesdays in the month of February and the first Wednesday in March.

Anyone is welcome to apply. All applicants will undergo a background check.

The Carbondale Police Department stresses that going through the Citizens Police Academy is not part of the hiring process for police officers.

Applications for the academy are due by February 2.
