The Illinois Department of Revenue is offering help to distilleries joining the fight against COVID-19
Many distilleries are switching gears and are now producing hand sanitizer. Department of Revenue Spokesperson Sam Salustro says alchohol bought by producers for that purpose will be tax exempt.
"Normally distillers incure a tax liability on alcohol use and production, but last night we send instructions to these distilleries how they could claim a deduction and remove any tax liability they have," said Salustro.
