Illinois Treasurer Mike Frerichs' “Money Match” program is returning more than a million dollars to thousands of taxpayers.
The program aims to get unclaimed cash to the rightful owner.
Treasurer Frerichs says nearly 13 thousand notification letters are going out, and checks will be issued after the address is confirmed.
"We fight on behalf of consumers here in Illinois to get money that belongs to them. Money that might be sitting in a bank or with a company, especially right now when so many families are struggling in the state. It's important that we get money that belongs to them into their hands."
