Today, Attorney General Kwame Raoul joined the U.S. Department of Justice to announce legal action against Google. Raoul and a bipartisan coalition of 37 attorneys filed the lawsuit against the tech company in 2020.
The proposal aims to restore competition and remove the search engine's alleged illegal monopoly. It will not allow the company to pay for Google Search or Google AI as the default search engine on devices.
Under the proposal, Google must share its data and information with rival search engines while protecting personal privacy and security. If Google fails to comply, the proposal calls for the divestiture of Chrome and the Android Operating system.
The final order establishes a technical committee to implement and monitor these guidelines for the next 10 years.
A hearing for the proposed remedies is scheduled from April to May next year.
