The Illinois Senate Republican Caucus sent a letter to the Executive Director of the Illinois High School Association requesting clarification on school policies regarding transgender athletes.

The Illinois Senate Republican Caucus sent a letter to the Executive Director of the Illinois High School Association requesting clarification on school policies regarding transgender athletes.

State Senator Terri Bryant signed the letter saying, "Ensuring sports remain competitive and fair is essential for preserving opportunities for young women in athletics."

The letter seeks confirmation that the IHSA enforces policies in high school athletics passed by the recent change in federal administration that are said to protect single-sex sports for female athletes.

It highlights the need for Illinois policies to comply with federal guidelines prohibiting students from participating in single-sex sports that do not align with their birth sex.
