Today, U.S. Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin released a statement following Trump's budget proposal for the Fiscal Year 2026.
Senator Durbin stated, "It's no surprise that President Trump proposed a federal budget that reflects his true priority, which is funding tax breaks for billionaires by betraying hard-working Americans and gutting the basic programs that keep us healthy and safe."
Durbin commented on the proposed budget cuts, which includes an $18 million cut National Institutes of Health, $4.5 billion from Title 1 and K-12 funding, $3.5 billion to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, $1.7 billion removed from the Health Resources and Services Administration, $2.5 billion from the Internal Revenue Service, and eliminating the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program completely.
Around $1 trillion will be allocated to the Pentagon and national defense budget, a 13% increase from last year.
President Trump's proposal also included $25 billion for the Golden Dome missile defense project and a 3.8% pay raise for service members.
