Attorney General Kwame Raoul filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration for freezing the development of wind energy.
On January 20, President Trump issued a memo halting all federal approvals necessary for pending wind energy projects.
Raoul and an 18-attorney coalition allege that the order harms states' efforts to secure reliable and affordable energy sources to meet the increasing demand for clean and renewable sources.
Raoul said, "Wind energy is a key component in Illinois' transition to a renewable energy future. The decision by the Trump administration to effectively halt all wind energy development is illegal and baseless, and I will continue to join with my fellow attorneys general to push back against the president's unlawful actions."
In addition, the lawsuit states that the directive harms wind industry infrastructure investments totaling billions of dollars.
Wind sources supply 10% of the country's electricity, support thousands of jobs, and sustain economic activity and tax payments.
