The Illinois Supreme Court has updated its policy on remote court appearances in civil cases.
Chief Justice Mary Jane Theis says the move gives judges and legal partners better tools to improve virtual hearings across the state.
The changes make the policy shorter, more practical, and apply it to all circuit court proceedings - especially for uncontested and non-evidentiary matters.
Officials say remote access is key to improving access to justice, especially for those who might otherwise miss work, lack child care, or live far from courthouses.
A new bench card has also been released to guide judges on remote hearing best practices.
