Oakland Ave Construction Almost Complete

The Oakland Ave reconstruction project in Carbondale is in the final stages.

South Oakland Ave is partially open after months of construction replacing the pavement, sidewalks, storm sewer and driveway aprons.

The street is now open from Walnut to Mill Street, but still closed from Mill to Chautauqua.

Carbondale Mayor Mike Henry says the pavement was completed in October and crews are finishing up a few things.

“It’s primarily sidewalks, they had something happen with Ameren because they were back in there working on a gas line and all the gas lines were replaced.”

Mayor Henry says completion will depend on the outdoor conditions.

“I think they’re probably 5 to 6 weeks out if the weather will hold for them.”
