Mississippi River Flooding Worsens in Some Locations

Map
National Weather Service

Already severe flooding on the Mississippi River is getting worse for several areas in Illinois and Missouri.

The National Weather Service now predicts the Mississippi River at Cape Girardeau is forecast to crest at 45. 5 feet on June 6th. That's about three feet shy of the record crest in January 2016.
Perry County Missouri officials say the Mississippi River Bridge at Chester will be reduced to one lane starting on Thursday as the river level continues to rise.

Flooding in St. Louis is forecast to reach the second-highest level ever - 14 feet above flood stage - on June 4th. That would be topped only by the 1993 flood.

No major damage is expected in St. Louis, but some river towns like Grafton, Illinois, are seeing severe impacts to businesses due to flooding.
