Emergency Management officials are launching a flood prep tour throughout the state.
The events are for residents and local governments.
The National Weather Service advises that damp ground and high river levels might repeat the flooding we experienced last year.
To help everyone be prepared the Illinois Emergency Management Agency, Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the Illinois Department of Insurance have teamed to educate the public on the possibility of spring flooding.
IEMA public information officer Rebecca Clark says now is the time to make sure you’re ready.
“It’s not only is it inconvenient to be caught unprepared for a storm or a flood but it can be dangerous, so let’s take the time now to prepare for what could be.”
Clark says people should have more than one way to receive emergency alerts during severe weather.
“Now is the time to find out how your community will alert you if evacuations are needed.”
IEMA recommends keeping a emergency kit in your home and car, flashlights and batteries for power outages, and cash for emergency purchases.
“I think it’s just a good reminder that this is a real possibility, this can happen in our communities anywhere it rains it can flood.”
The event takes place from 4 to 6:30 at the Jackson County Health Department.
