Excessive Heat Warnings and Heat Advisories are in effect through Thursday and may need to be extended into Friday over portions of the region.

High temperatures, high humidity contribute to dangerous conditions

The National Weather Service has upgraded this week's Heat Advisory to an EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING in part of our region, as temperatures are expected in the upper 90's with heat index values well above 100 degrees.

The area covered in the warning is roughly along and west of Interstate 57 in southern Illinois, and includes parts of southeast Missouri, as well. A Heat Advisory remains in effect for the eastern half of our area.

Overnight lows won't be enough to provide relief, forecasters say, so each day will feel a bit warmer than the last. If you do have to be outside, take lots of breaks and drink plenty of water.

Heat index readings are expected to be 110 or higher through Thursday.
