If you enjoy recording weather conditions in your own backyard and keeping track of how much rain or snow fell at your location, the National Weather Service in Paducah has an opportunity for you.

The Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network or CoCoRaHSis looking for volunteers to record precipitation and send it through the organization's web page or mobile app.

The data gathered is applied to water resource planning, severe storm warnings, predicting crop yields, assessing hail damage, and is used in schools. It is routinely viewed by the National Weather Service, meteorologists, city utilities, engineers, and more.

Volunteers will use a rain gauge that can be purchased through the National Weather Service website. Online training slides are also available to those who join the program.
