Thanks to the generosity of donors, the Marion Unit 2 School District reports it was able to provide direct relief to all 53 families in the district impacted by the tornado in Williamson County on May 16.
Superintendent Becky Moss says each family received gift cards based on their level of need, with a minimum of $100 dollars, to help them purchase essential items. She says they were also able to distribute a $320 dollar check to every affected family to assist with immediate recovery needs.
The tornado reached peak EF-4 intensity after crossing Market Road into a subdivision and destroying homes along the way on several different roads.
It also removed the roofs of several homes of the staff of the U.S. Penitentiary just south of the main prison complex and damaged homes along Highway 37 and north of Hudgens Road.
