The state Comptroller joined some organizations to make sure people in Cairo have a Thanksgiving meal.
More than 150 families in Cairo received a Thanksgiving meal Thursday thanks to State Comptroller Susana Mendoza and her staff.
They were joined by State Senator Dale Fowler, Representative Patrick Windhorst, labors local 773 and staff from Arrowleaf.
Mendoza says events like this are about making people feel good and taken care of, especially after battling COVID-19.
“No matter how bad these times have been with the pandemic, there's always reason to give thanks and Cairo is a very special place to me. I've been coming here now five years is our fifth year in a row coming to kind of share some and spread some holiday cheer. A lot of folks out in this part of the state feel forgotten, but they're certainly not forgotten to me or my staff.”
In addition to the Thanksgiving meal, Arrowleaf gave away new coats for children and Southern Seven Health Department held a COVID-19 vaccine clinic.
