The Birthing Center at SIH Memorial Hospital of Carbondale will remain open amid changes in provider coverage.
On December 4th of last year, Heartland Women’s Healthcare notified SIH of their intent to discontinue labor and delivery services at the end of this month, citing their decision aligned with the practice’s “strategic goals and operational plans.”
SIH assures the community that the Birthing Center at SIH Memorial Hospital of Carbondale will continue to provide labor and delivery services with the highest standard of care.
The Birthing Center will still be fully staffed with the appropriate care for growing families and their providers from Southern Illinois Ob-Gyn Associates and Shawnee Health.
To ensure high-quality care, SIH also recently partnered with OBHG to establish an inpatient obstetrician hospitalist program.
SIH Lead Communications Coordinator, Rosslind Rice, states "the program will provide an in-house obstetrician for 24/7 emergency services and support, alleviating the demands on current OBs and midwives while enhancing care for expectant families."
Patients with questions or concerns can contact SIH Birthing Center at 618-549-0721.
