Ameren customers get electric bill relief

Ameren

After a summer of higher energy prices, Ameren customers will see a break in their electric bills. The Citizens Utility Board announced that Ameren's electricity fall supply price dropped 30% beginning October 1st.

The new price is 8.4 cents per kilowatt-hour. That's down from the 12.2 cents per kilowatt-hour customers experienced during the summer.

The spike was attributed to the price Ameren had to pay more for what's called reserve power - or capacity. During the summer, energy supplier Midcontinent Independent System Operator auctioned off the capacity power which ended up driving the prices higher.
