Carbondale, IL – Illinoisans can now find out where high-speed internet is available across the state.
The new website Broadband-illinois.org lets users search for broadband providers in their area and compare the speeds of each as reported by the internet service providers. Kathy Lively with Connect SI says citizen engagement is an important part of Broadband Illinois, verifying or debunking information provided by the ISP's on the online maps.
She says what you see in the maps could be an over reporting of coverage. We'll know more once we actually get the citizens involved. So everyone will have an opportunity to do speed tests on their computers at home that will actually then take the speeds and actually send that to a data collection center that's centric throughout the state.
Lively also says residents will have the opportunity to participate in town hall meetings to discuss Illinois' internet. For more information, visit www.broadbandillinois.org.
