Jackson County Man Admits To Murder

By Associated Press

Murphysboro, IL – A Jackson County man has admitted to killing a woman in her Murphysboro home 17 years ago.
Thirty seven year old Quincy Damell Hughes pled guilty Wednesday to first degree murder in the 1991 death of 22-year-old Cindy Lou Pavey.
Hughes was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
Pavey's mother, Marlene Eckert, says she is relieved Hughes confessed to the killing, but she believes his sentence isn't steep enough for the crime he committed.
When accused of the muder in February, Hughes already was jailed in Jackson County on robbery, burglary and battery charges unrelated to the slaying. He has previous convictions of battery, forgery and theft.
