Carbondale, IL – Many people will enjoy a relaxing vacation during their spring break...but a group of Southern Illinois University Carbondale students will be doing volunteer work instead.
About fifty students will participate in the Habitat for Humanity program to help build new houses in Florida, Mississippi, and Louisiana.
Another group of seventeen students will be in the Dominican Republic with the Food for the Hungry organization. One more group of about a dozen will be in New Orleans to work with children in hurricane-ravaged areas.
Mythili Rundblad is the coordinator of Student Development at SIU-C. She is proud of all the students that will be volunteering their time.
Rundblad works with the Newman Catholic Student Center and Intervarsity Christian Fellowship to put together these groups.
The students hold fundraisers and chip in their own money to pay for the trips.
For those interested in future volunteer work...you can contact the student development office at 618-453-5714.
