Rantoul, IL – A youth military academy in central Illinois is getting a large injection of state money to help build a new campus.
State officials say the Lincoln's Challenge Academy in Rantoul will get $38 million in capital funding for the project. That includes $3.8 million for planning and $34.3 million to build the new, 500-student campus.
The LCA offers high school dropouts highly regimented programs meant to boost personal discipline and develop life skills. It's administered by the Illinois National Guard.
More than 11,400 students have graduated from the academy since its launch in 1993.
