Carbondale, IL – Southern Illinois University Carbondale honors the life of late Saluki baseball coach Dan Callahan.
A "Celebration of Cal's Life" is going on from 4-5 p.m. Monday at SIU-C's Abe Martin Field. A reception will follow from 5-8 p.m. in the Stadium Club at Saluki Stadium.
Coach Callahan passed away a week ago after losing a battle with a rare form of skin cancer. He coached 16 seasons with the Salukis.
SIU President Glenn Poshard says Callahan fought hard against the disease and didn't ask for pity.
A memorial fund in Callahan's name will soon be set up through the SIU Foundation to benefit the Saluki baseball program.
