Metropolis, IL – The riverboat casino in Metropolis will re-open in time for the Memorial Day weekend.
Harrah's Casino has been closed since April 24. General Manager Mark Osterhaus says it'll re-open May 27th. He says the cleanup that must be finished before reopening is in the ramp area leading from the parking lot to the casino boat.
Osterhaus says the gambling floor itself, which is on a boat, and the adjacent hotel were not damaged. The damage total stands at 3.5 million dollars. In addition, the casino has paid its workers while the facility is closed, at a cost of about 70-thousand dollars per day.
The closure has also made a dent in government coffers. The city of Metropolis and the state of Illinois have been missing out on roughly 68-thousand dollars a day in casino taxes.
