Signs honoring fallen Illinois police officers line a road in Nashville, IL

A tribute in southwestern Illinois to fallen law enforcement officers is being praised on social media and in the community.

The Nashville Police Department posted on Facebook photos of signs and flags set up along side the road on North Mill Street to honor all fallen officers from 2021.

Every sign has the name and department of each officer from across the state that can be seen on both sides from each direction of travel.

The signs include tributes to Brooklyn, Illinois Police Officer Brian Pierce, Junior, who died last August after being struck and killed by a fleeing vehicle while attempting to deploy spike strips on the McKinley Bridge during a vehicle pursuit. Pierce also served with the Makanda Township Fire Department.

There is also a sign honoring Wayne County Sheriff's Deputy Sean Riley whose body was found last December at the scene of where he assisted a motorist along Interstate 64.
