The Truck Driving Program at Shawnee Community College is expanding.

Tuesday, the College held a ribbon cutting and groundbreaking event at the Metro Center in Metropolis.

School President Tim Taylor says the growing online commerce industry is helping create a greater need for truck drivers. He says it's hoped this expansion will spark investments in local businesses.

Taylor says expanding Shawnee College's Truck Driving Program will help produce 80 to 100 more truck drivers per year.

The program offers the skills and knowledge to obtain an Illinois commercial driver's license, meeting Department of Transportation requirements.
