SIU Carbondale Chancellor Austin Lane will remain a Saluki.
Lane was one of five finalists for President of New Mexico State University. In its regular meeting Monday, the New Mexico State University Board of Regents voted unanimously to launch a new search for the university system’s next president. The move follows an 11-month national search. Lane met with faculty and students earlier this month in Las Cruces.
Board of Regents Chair Ammu Devasthali said that after careful consideration, she did not believe that any of the current finalists fully met the needs of New Mexico State University at this critical juncture. Devasthali has chaired the Board of Regents throughout the search process. She says finding the right leader is paramount. Devasthali also said the finalists possessed impressive qualifications and are assets to their respective institutions. Regents also voted to move forward with hiring a new interim president.
