The landscape of college athletics is changing rapidly with more and more student-athletes entering the transfer portal, looking for a better fit on and off the field, which often includes finding the best financial deal, not to mention many schools trying to figure out how to pay student-athletes without breaking their budgets.

We’ve already looked at a bit of the history of the NCAA and the current issues facing the governing body. Now, we visit with SIU System President Dan Mahony about where he sees the ever-growing, big business model of college athletics going in the future.

College football seems to be the most volatile right now, often determining what entire athletic departments do, especially in terms of conference realignment.

WSIU's Brad Palmer spoke with Mahony about if he thinks the Power 4 schools could soon decide to break off on their own and operate under their own rules.
