Cape Girardeau will field a team in the Prospect League starting in 2019.
Local officials made the announcement Friday at the Cape Girardeau Sportsplex.
The Prospect League is a summer collegiate wood bat league that currently features 11 teams in Springfield, Danville and Quincy, Illinois, as well teams as far away as Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
All players in the league must have NCAA eligibility remaining in order to participate and they are not paid so they can maintain their amateur status.
Former Saluki Tyler Bullock was the league's Player of the Year in its inaugural season of 2009.
