Hunters harvested more than 76,000 deer during Illinois’ firearm hunting season.
State Department of Natural Resources spokesperson Rachel Torbert says the second half of what was a great season just wrapped up this past weekend.
"We ended up just a little ahead of where we were last year. So, hunters this year had a preliminary harvest of 76,579 compared with 75,417 last year. So. we're up just about a thousand."
Illinois counties with the largest harvests this year include Randolph, Jackson and Jefferson counties. Next up for hunters: muzzleloader-only season this weekend.
