Girls flag football has made its way to Illinois after the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Board of Directors approved the sport earlier this month.
It will debut as an IHSA State Series with over 100 schools committed to participate.
This is the 40th sport offered by the IHSA as a State Series alongside the Wheelchair Basketball Tournament and Athletes with Disabilities divisions in several sports.
Illinois is the ninth state in the country to sanction girls flag football.
“The sport has experienced significant growth in a short amount of time," said IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson, "and our member schools are excited to see it become an IHSA sport."
The inaugural series will start during the 2024-2025 school year, with the State finals happening Friday and Saturday, October 11-12, 2024.
